How to Insert a SIM Card into a WTI Device

This guide explains how to properly install a SIM card into a WTI Console Server equipped with a cellular modem.

Warning: Never insert or remove a SIM card while the device is powered on.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure the device is powered off
  • Disconnect all power cords
  • Use a supported SIM card (Standard / 2FF)

WTI devices require a Standard SIM (2FF). Micro (3FF) and Nano (4FF) SIMs require a proper adapter.

Installation Steps

1. Power Down the Device

Power off the device completely and disconnect all power sources.

2. Locate the SIM Card Access Panel

Locate the SIM card access panel on the left side of the chassis near the cellular antennas. The panel is labeled SIM CARD ACCESS.

3. Remove the SIM Card Access Cover

Remove the retaining screw and carefully remove the SIM access cover.

4. Identify the SIM Holder

Inside the access opening, locate the SIM holder on the cellular modem board.

5. Insert the SIM Card

Insert the SIM card fully into the slot. Ensure the gold contacts face inward and down. The notch orientation must match. Do not force the SIM into place.

6. Reinstall the Access Cover

Reinstall the SIM access cover and secure it with the original screw.

7. Power On and Verify Operation

Reconnect power and verify cellular connectivity using the GUI or CLI command /CELL.

Important Notes

  • WTI devices are designed for IoT/M2M data SIMs
  • Static IP SIMs are recommended but not required
  • AT&T and Verizon support OTA APN auto-configuration
  • T-Mobile requires manual APN configuration
