Wakeup On Failure


The Wakeup On Failure feature allows a WTI unit with a cellular modem to put its modem in a non-connected sleep state, with its wired ethernet port(s) acting as the unit's primary network interfaces. The cellular modem will only wakeup when certain failure conditions are detected on specified wired ethernet ports.


Complete the following steps to Configure the Wakeup On Failure option.


VERIFY CELLULAR MODEM IS SET AS DEFAULT GATEWAY

  1. The WTI unit's cellular modem is set as the unit's default gateway by default. Make sure this is the case by checking the /P MODEM screen.

CONFIGURE WAKEUP ON FAILURE FEATURE

  1. Enter cellular configuration with the /CELL command.
  2. Select 4 for Wakeup On Failure.
  3. Select 1 to enable the feature. Note that this feature cannot be used in conjunction with IP Pass-through.
  4. Select 2 to configure which ethernet interface(s) should be monitored for failure. Unplugging the network cable, or failed ping responses on the selected interface(s) will trigger a Wakeup event.
  5. Select 3 to configure a primary host to ping as a test for failure. If the host fails to respond to pings on the interface(s) specified in step 5, and no secondary host is specified, a Wakeup event is triggered.
  6. Select 4 to configure a secondary host to ping as a test for failure. In the event that the primary host fails to respond to a ping, the secondary host will then be pinged before a Wakeup event is triggered
  7. Select 5 to set how often the host(s) are pinged
  8. Select 6 to set the delay after a filed ping before a retry ping is sent.
  9. Select 7 to set the number of consecutive failed pings that must occur before a real failure is determined
  10. Select 8 to set auto recovery. When auto recovery is enabled, as soon as the ethernet failure is resolved, the cellular modem will be put back into sleep state. When auto recovery is disabled, once the ethernet failure is resolved the user must manually re-enable the Wakeup On Failure feature via option 11 to place the cellular modem back into sleep state.
  11. Select 9 to set which ethernet interface should be set to the default gateway while the cellular modem is in the sleep state.
  12. Select 10 to define what default gateway address should be used for the interface selected in option 9 while the cellular modem is in the sleep state.
  13. After an ethernet failure has caused a Wakeup event, select option 11 to manually re-enable the Wakeup On Failure feature, which puts the cellular modem back into sleep state, after the ethernet failure has been resolved. This is only applicable when Autorecovery is disabled. When Autorecovery is enabled, the Wakeup On Failure feature is automatically re-enabled once the ethernet failure has been resolved.
  14. Select option 12 to perform a ping test on the Primary and Secondary hosts defined.
