Connecting an Aruba 6200F Switch to a WTI Console Server Using the USB AUX Port

This guide explains how to connect the USB AUX console port on an Aruba 6200F switch to a serial port on a WTI Out-of-Band (OOB) console server for remote console access.

Overview

The Aruba USB AUX port presents a USB console connection, while the WTI console server accepts an asynchronous serial connection. The adapter and cable chain below converts the Aruba USB console connection to the RJ45 serial interface used by the WTI device.

Configure both ends with identical serial communication settings.

Configure the WTI Serial Port

  1. Select the WTI Serial Port

    Choose the serial port that will be connected to the Aruba switch.

  2. Apply the Serial Settings

    Set the port to 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control.

  3. Save the Configuration

    Save the changes before attempting to open the console session.

Access the Aruba Console

  1. Connect to the WTI Console Server

    Log in to the WTI device using your preferred supported management method.

  2. Open the Configured Port

    From the WTI command line, enter /c 4 and press Enter.

    /c 4

    In this example, 4 is the WTI serial port number. Replace it with the port number used for your connection.

  3. Confirm the Login Prompt

    The Aruba login prompt should appear. A successful session will look similar to the following:

    6200 login: admin Password: Last login: 2026-07-14 14:35:12 from the console

Troubleshooting

No Login Prompt

Press Enter once or twice, then verify that you opened the correct WTI serial port.

Unreadable Characters

Confirm that both the Aruba console and the WTI serial port are set to 115200, 8-N-1 with no flow control.

No Console Output

Verify the complete hardware chain and confirm that the USB-to-RS232 adapter is firmly connected.

Session Is Busy

Confirm that another user or process does not already have an active connection to the selected WTI serial port.

Expected Result

You can now access the Aruba 6200F console remotely through the WTI Out-of-Band console server.
