Remote Alarm Notification

WTI Remote Console Server products include an impressive array of environmental alarms and event alarms, designed to help keep network administrators informed regarding conditions at remote network installations and equipment sites. When enabled and configured, these alarms can help administrators to monitor unit temperature, interruption of communication with the remote console server, ping response failure, excessive invalid access attempts, power conditions and buffer status. All of these alarms include extremely flexible notification options, which enable the remote console server to notify administrators via email, text message, SNMP trap or Syslog message whenever an alarm is triggered.

Access Command Functions on Remote Network Devices

Often, when a piece of network equipment hangs or crashes, all it takes to get it running again are a few simple commands entered at the device's console port. Although this is a pretty easy task if the crashed network device is located in the next room or down the hall, it's a whole different matter if the network device is located at a remote network equipment site, hundreds of miles away from your office. Remote Console Server units solve this problem by providing a reliable, secure way to access console port functions on remote devices. Network administrators can establish an out of band connection to the remote console server via network, secondary network or modem, and then connect to other devices in the equipment rack in order to review device status, invoke commands or change configuration parameters.

Perfect for Both DB9 and RJ45 Applications

In order to simplify the process of adding out of band access capabilities to your remote network facilities, WTI Remote Console Server products are available in either RJ45 port format or DB9 port format. This means that you can add an out of band management solution to your remote network application without running new cables or spending a fortune on cable adapters. Our DSM series, RJ45 format Remote Console Server products are perfect for applications that use the newer, RJ45 cable format, and our RSM series DB9 format Remote Console Server Products provide a perfect fit, for older network applications that use DB9 format cabling.

DC Version for Remote Network Applications

WTI Remote Console Server units are ideal for extremely remote network applications where AC power isn't available. All of our DSM series and RSM series Remote Console Server units are available in either 100 to 240V AC versions and -48V DC versions. This allows WTI Remote Console Servers to provide a perfect solution for both remote DC battery-powered network equipment sites as well as huge, corporate data centers where AC power is readily available.

Different Serial Port Modes for Different Port Applications

In order to allow serial ports to be easily adapted to a wide variety of different applications, WTI remote console servers allow you to select one of four different port modes for each individual serial port. Each port mode is designed to adapt a console server serial port for a specific function; several of the port modes include additional parameters that allow administrators to fine tune the configuration of the port to fit unique applications. The “Any-to-Any” port mode is designed for most common applications and allows connection to other ports and access to command and configuration functions (with proper security privileges.) The Passive Mode allows connection to other ports, but does not allow access to configuration and command functions. The Buffer Mode is intended for data collection applications, and is generally used to collect status and error messages from a connected device. The Modem Mode simplifies connection to an external modem and includes additional parameters that can be used to select a reset string, initialization string and other parameters.

Lost Communication Alarm Lets You Know Immediately When Network Devices Fail to Respond

The Lost Communication alarm allows WTI remote console server products to provide prompt notification whenever communication with a connected device is interrupted. When a network element connected to a remote console server serial port ceases to respond, the Lost Communication can immediately notify network administrators via SNMP Trap, email, text message or Syslog message. This enables administrators to respond immediately when vital network devices malfunction or need maintenance, and helps to maximize network uptime by promptly informing support personnel of equipment problems, providing the ability to quickly address the problem or switch over to backup devices as soon as a problem with a remote device is detected. If desired, the Lost Communication alarm can also be configured to provide further notification in the event that communication with the connected network device is later restored.

Power Redundancy - Dual Power Input Models

WTI Remote Console Server products provide a perfect solution for network applications that demand power fallback capability. Our DSM Remote Console Servers are available in dual power input configurations, which allow connection to both a main power source and a backup power source. This means that if the main power supply fails, the WTI Remote Console Server can immediately fallback to the secondary power supply without a interrupting out of band access to console port functions on remote network elements.

It doesn’t matter how many devices your remote network site includes, or what type of serial ports they include; there’s a WTI Remote Console Server model to fit any out of band management application that you can imagine. For applications that use RJ45 format cables, our DSM series Remote Console Servers include RJ45 format serial ports and are available in 8, 24 or 40 port configurations. If your application includes older, legacy equipment, our RSM series Remote Console Servers include DB9 format serial ports and are available in 8, 16 or 32 port configurations.

Supports Both IPv4 and IPv6

In order to prepare for the upcoming switchover to IPv6 protocol, all WTI Remote Console Servers now provide full support for both IPv4 and IPv6 (the intended successor to IPv4.) This helps to ensure that WTI Remote Console Servers purchased today will be fully compatible with the planned IPv6 internet environment, and will not be rendered obsolete when the IPv6 protocol eventually becomes the new worldwide standard for network communications.

Includes Enterprise Management Software

All WTI Remote Console Servers include WTI’s convenient Enterprise Management Software, which drastically simplifies the task of managing multiple Remote Console Servers spread throughout your network infrastructure. The WMU Enterprise Management Software provides a centralized command interface that allows administrators to easily manage, label and control multiple WTI Remote Console Servers in large network applications, reducing the time required to access console port command functions on connected devices.

Once installed on your PC or laptop, the Enterprise Management Software can search a user-defined IP address range on your network and discover all compatible WTI devices within the range. Discovered devices are then added to the Enterprise Management Software’s inventory, allowing administrators to assign a descriptive tag to each Remote Console Server in order to denote the location or function of the device. In addition to providing a centralized interface for remote console access functions, the Enterprise Management Software can also be used to control firmware updates for WTI products and edit and manage user accounts at individual or multiple WTI devices.
