Ping Watchdog Feature - Detect Malfunctioning Devices at Remote Sites
WTI RSM-8R Series Power + Console Hybrids include a convenient ping watchdog feature that helps network administrators to make certain that important network elements at user-specified IP addresses are up and running and ready to respond to commands. The ping watchdog can be configured to regularly ping up to 54 different user-specified IP addresses at user-specified time intervals, checking to verify that each device is alive and responding to ping commands. If the ping watchdog feature determines that a device at one of these IP addresses is unresponsive, the WTI RSM-8R Series Hybrid can notify network administrators and tech support personnel via email, SNMP Trap or Syslog message, or automatically reboot the unresponsive device to immediately remedy the situation.
SNMP Control, Monitoring and Configuration
In order to simplify the process of managing network elements at remote branch offices, RSM-8R Series Power + Console Hybrids feature full SNMP support. This provides easy compatibility with SNMP based enterprise management solutions and allows SNMP commands to be used to operate and configure RSM-8R units located at distant installation sites. Enterprise management programs can send SNMP commands to the RSM-8R unit in order to retrieve data from the unit’s environmental/event monitoring features, initiate port connection and power reboot/switching functions or alter configuration parameters to adapt the RSM-8R to changing system requirements.
Supports Both IPv4 and IPv6
In order to prepare for the upcoming switchover to IPv6 protocol, all WTI Console + Power Hybrids now provide full support for both IPv4 and IPv6 (the intended successor to IPv4.) This helps to ensure that WTI Console + Power Hybrids purchased today will be fully compatible with the planned IPv6 internet environment, and will not be rendered obsolete when the IPv6 protocol eventually becomes the new worldwide standard for network communications.
